Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy is a collaborative process. It offers a safe, confidential space to better understand yourself, work through challenges, and develop skills for coping and growth.

    In therapy, we might:

    • Talk through life’s challenges and patterns that may be holding you back

    • Explore emotions, relationships, and past experiences

    • Recognize your strengths and build new coping skills

    • Work toward healing, personal growth, and positive changes

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Simply showing up and allowing yourself to be seen and heard can be a powerful first step toward healing. In our sessions, we’ll explore what feels most important to you at your own pace. When it fits the therapy process, we may also use specific techniques (such as EMDR) to support your healing journey.

Therapy can be both gentle and challenging. There may be moments of insight, relief, and connection, as well as times when difficult emotions arise. All of this is part of the healing process. Over time, therapy can help you develop greater self-awareness, emotional balance, and confidence in facing life’s transitions and relationships with authenticity and compassion.

  • Therapy is a deeply personal partnership. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so we can chat about your needs and see if my style feels right for you. If it doesn't feel like a match, I am happy to provide referrals to other trusted colleagues.

  • Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll dive deeper into your history, current challenges, and what you hope to achieve. Think of it as mapping the territory before we start our journey together.

  • Yes. Your privacy is a cornerstone of our work. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I am legally and ethically bound to protect your confidentiality. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as if you are a danger to yourself or others, or in cases of child or elder abuse. We will review our confidentiality policies during our first session.

Getting Started

  • My standard therapy session typically lasts 50-60 minutes, though this can slightly vary depending on your needs and the type of treatment offered.

  • Consistency is key to making progress. Generally, I see most of my clients once a week, especially in the beginning. This helps us build momentum and a strong therapeutic relationship. As you feel more equipped, we may transition to bi-weekly sessions or adjust the frequency depending on your unique needs.

  • There is no "one-size-fits-all" answer. Some clients come for short-term support to target specific challenges, while others prefer long-term work to explore deeper systemic patterns. We will check in regularly to ensure our work still serves your growth.

  • I currently provide Telehealth services for clients located in California. Due to licensing regulations, you must be physically present in California at the time of our appointment.

  • I use secure, HIPAA-compliant video and EHR platform designed for healthcare. To protect your privacy at home, I recommend finding a quiet, private space for our sessions.
